The only thing that I ask of the RSS gods is that Shrook live on for eternity. Over the last few days I have been bumping into a number of different blog posts from the various folks I follow in my feed reader, who have been trying out the first publicly available beta client from one of my favourite Web browsers: Flock v1. I don't know what kind of voodoo magic was used to code Shrook, and frankly I don't want to know. Shrieky shrook google mac Interface seems very cramped and cluttered, especially if you follow a lot of feeds.Unlike Google Reader, the 20 most recent items from a given feed stay available until pushed out by new content from the same feed.Updated my feeds to their new, current addresses automatically.Status icons let you know at a glance whether a news item is new, unread, read. It's fast, has a fantastic search function and auto-refreshes constantly, but uses only a small fraction of the system resources of every other standalone reader I've tried. Well apparently it is, because after over a month and a half of searching and testing, I've only just now stumbled across Shrook, the free RSS reader of my dreams. It needs to be fast (web-based or standalone app, it doesn't matter) it must accept OPML files and it needs to have a reliable search feature. You see, ever since the death of Google Reader, I've been searching high and low for an RSS reader that meets my needs.
