8/13/2023 0 Comments Sight words![]() ![]() However, some educators say a more efficient method is to teach them by using an explicit phonics approach, perhaps by using a tool such as Elkonin boxes. Most advocates of sight-words believe children should memorize the words. teaching whole written words and concluded that phonics is more effective, saying "our findings suggest that interventions aiming to improve the accuracy of reading aloud and/or comprehension in the early stages of learning should focus on the systematicities present in print-to-sound relationships, rather than attempting to teach direct access to the meanings of whole written words". However, a 2017 study in England compared teaching with phonics vs. The word "has" also breaks the phonetic rule of s normally making the sss sound, in this word the s makes the z sound, /z/." The word is then pronounced /h/ /a/ /z/. ![]() The word "said" is pronounced as /s/ /e/ /d/. ![]() In this word it makes the short e sound of eh. Another example, is the word "said", it breaks the phonetic rule of ai normally makes the long a sound, ay. For example, the word "was" does not follow a usual spelling pattern, as the middle letter "a" makes an /ɒ~ʌ/ sound and the final letter "s" makes a /z/ sound, nor can the word be associated with a picture clue since it denotes an abstract state (existence). Recognizing sight words automatically is said to be advantageous for beginning readers because many of these words have unusual spelling patterns, cannot be sounded out using basic phonics knowledge and cannot be represented using pictures. Advocates of whole-word instruction believe that being able to recognize a large number of sight words gives students a better start to learning to read. The advantage for children being able to recognize sight words automatically is that a beginning reader will be able to identify the majority of words in a beginning text before they even attempt to read it therefore, allowing the child to concentrate on meaning and comprehension as they read without having to stop and decode every single word. Sight words account for a large percentage (up to 75%) of the words used in beginning children's print materials. However, some researchers say that two of the most significant problems with sight words are: (1) memorizing sight words is labour intensive, requiring on average about 35 trials per word, and (2) teachers who withhold phonics instruction and instead rely on teaching sight words are making it harder for children to "gain basic word-recognition skills" that are critically needed by the end of grade three and can be used over a lifetime of reading. The term sight words is often confused with sight vocabulary, which is defined as each person's own vocabulary that the person recognizes from memory without the need to decode for understanding. Sight words were introduced after whole language (a similar method) fell out of favor with the education establishment. High frequency sight words (also known simply as sight words) are commonly used words that young children are encouraged to memorize as a whole by sight, so that they can automatically recognize these words in print without having to use any strategies to decode. ![]()

8/13/2023 0 Comments Arq backup windows![]() I'm not a fan of kicking someone while they're down, but I don't think that means customers can't be vocal in response to something like deleting customer data with 7 days notice. I agree with you on many of these points, but I don't see where the transparency is in giving people 7 days notice before their backups can no longer be accessed, without justifying that specific part of the plan. So you want to beat up on Stefan, you'll have to get through me first. I'll always stand by someone who says "hey, I stuffed up and I'm fixing it, and BTW, I'm suffering terribly mentally because of it as I care so much". Yet he continues to make the product better. He has been open about the toll this has taken on his mental health. To be honest, flaming Stefan, kicking him when he is down, achieves nothing. That's a tough bit because if you want to restore that old data, you haven''t got long to do so. The ONLY thing that I don't get (and I'd imagine cost is the driver) of why only a week's notice is being given. Most importantly, has he learned from all of this so it won't happen again. Has he a choice at this point in time? No. Do you think Stefan is happy about saying that? Of course not. So knowing all of that, what do you do now knowing all of the above? You make the best possible solution you can for your end user with the cards you've got dealt with, and that is, "sorry, you are going to have to start your backups all over again". He has come on this thread and apologised. I'm sure if Stefan could go back in time, we wouldn't be in this situation. Unfortunately that bed was made when ARQ 6 / 7 was developed. It's just too difficult and complex to do given how different ARQ 7 is. To minimise the risk of that unknown quantity, Stefan is being openly transparent that your old data cannot migrate to version 7. A massive headache for everyone involved and best not to repeat it. ![]() We know (including Stefan) that migrations from Arq 5 datasets into Arq 6 did not go well and resulted in loss of data. He is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. ![]() From what I can tell, Stefan has taken the path of least pain for the user. ![]() 8/13/2023 0 Comments Napisy gaslight 1944![]() In one scene, he speaks of his great lust for precious jewels (about a half-hour into the movie). Their connection is personal for Susana Batalha, the chef and owner of Fat Tea Macanese Food, a restaurant in Selangor, Malaysia. Both places are linked by a history of Portuguese colonization and trade dating back to the 16th century. It is also no coincidence that fermented shrimp has similar-sounding names in Malaysia and Macau, where it is known as belacan and balichão, respectively. It was the main source of flavor, so when the kingdom of Cirebon deliberately stopped selling salt and terasi to the East Sunda kingdom, it caused a war. Ngapi-makers were listed in Burmese stone and marble inscriptions as early as the 12th century, while terasi predates modern-day Indonesia: The 18th-century Carita Purwaka manuscript, which details the history of the Cirebon Sultanate in Java, documents how terasi was widely traded in 15th-century Java between the sultanate and the East Sunda kingdom. Its roots, as such, run deep although the origin of fermented shrimp differs by country, it can be used to understand life, trade, and colonization in Southeast Asia.
